Characterization theorems and Rodrigues operator. A general approach

Abstract

In [1] a characterization theorem, related with q-polynomials, is given going further in the study of classical orthogonal polynomials. In order to prove this result we have considered the Rodrigues' operator which allows us to characterize not only the classical families but also a more general set of polynomials, for instance the quasi-orthogonal semiclassical polynomials.
